RiotCats is set in a 3D post-apocalyptic world, where cats have to fight for their lives and endure hard times. Players must save the feline population by collecting different cats, breeding them, selling them, even upgrade them by taking part in life or death battles.
We had a chance to connect with the team behind RiotCats and learn more about their innovative game, their vision, and their plans for the future.
Can you tell me a bit of background about you and your team? What inspired you to get into blockchain / crypto games?
Initially, every member of our team has an experience in mobile game industry. What has connected us is a passion for new technologies, new experience. So we came together as a group of enthusiastic developers, 3D modellers, game designers, marketing and community managers, who wanted to create a really enjoyable game on the blockchain. We are attracted to blockchain for its decentralization, transparency and security. Inspired by pioneers in the blockchain gaming technology, we decided to try ourselves in creating our own little blockchain world.
Tell me about how the vision for Riot Catsa came about. What inspired you to make a game like this?
We, like everybody, adore cats, but we don’t think that being a cat is always purring and cuddles. We wanted to create a blockchain game with our own vision of a feline universe, with 3D characters, battle systems and a rebellious spirit. After all, cats are predators, and this very side we choose to depict in our game. To make cats look even more spectacular, we created them in 3D.
What is the basic gameplay, story, and marketplace of Riot Cats? How does the game and marketplace work?
RiotCats is a post-apocalyptic world, where cats have to fight for their lives and endure hard times. The players goal is to save the feline population. Users can do this by collecting different cats, breeding them, selling them, even upgrade them by taking part in life or death battles.
The game main features are: Collecting, trading, breeding and Battling. But we intended to create a GAME, not just another collectible. That’s why we focused on battling system.
A player can call out other cats to fight. The results of the fight are calculated on the blockchain by RiotCats’ special algorithm and then displayed for the players to see as a real 3D battle scene. Win or lose, each player gains experience, but the winner will also have a chance to get a legendary item or weapon! The game has a special marketplace for cats and items, where players can buy or sell them via auction. Items are erc 721 token as well as cats. Additional items can be equipment that directly affects the combat parameters of the character, or items that affect the meta parameters (such as the chance of dropping loot, cooldown time after fight, etc.).
The game is based on Ethereum blockchain with using smart contracts. You may know that projects on Ethereum have a problem of not being able to change the smart contract and the functionality after the start. So, project developers deprive themselves of the possibility to develop the game process and adding new functionality in the future. In order to avoid this, we developed the extensions system, which allow us to add new functional in the future.
What are some of the barriers you see ahead for your project and Crypto Games in general?
Oh, there are a lot. Since blockchain technology is rolling fast, you have to keep yourself updated, do a lot of research, be aware of new solutions, so you got to roll as fast as you can. And since we try to do our best to make a high-quality product, we can’t avoid different difficulties.
Tell me about your perspective on blockchain technology and games in general. Where is this all going? and why is it important to you?
For sure we believe in its bright future, blockchain technology is developing rapidly day by day and is increasingly used in different areas of our lives. Probably new blockchains will appear, which will allow games and products to function in ways previously impossible.
What is your roadmap, and what plans do you have for the future for your team and your project?
Now we are almost done with our pre order program, we are preparing for beta and main launch.
We plan a lot of activities to introduce our game to the bigger crowd – giveaways, bounty programs, competitions and etc.
Our team will also attend the upcoming Crypto Games Conference in Minks, where we will be happy to show our riotcats to colleagues and other crypto enthusiasts.
Any key dates or milestones coming up that you would like to share? Any announcements coming up?
Sure! The closest key date is October 8, RiotCats Beta launch. Beta will run for 2 weeks, there will be buying/selling/breeding features available during the first week, and battle feature during the second week.
We hope to get much feedback from our beta adopters and improve our game as much as we can.
The official release is set to October 22. We will present the improved battle system and the exchange function.
